Natural Beauties
Wetland Kerkini: Lake Kerkini is one of the most important hydro biotopes of Greece while distinguishes for its rich flora and fauna. Many rear and protected by international conventions species of birds, riverside forests, water lilies that float on a surface of thousands of square meters and a horizon of great beauty from the Mountains Belles and Krousia add to the scenery a tone of unrivalled beauty. More than 300 species of birds, 58 species of mammals, 22 species of reptiles, 12 species of amphibians and 30 species of fish have been recorded in the width area of the Lake. The wetland is protected by the Ramsar Convention, the Greek legislation and the Directive 79/409/EEC and is included to the list of sites of European Networks “Nature 2000”. Individuals organize tours in the Lake with boats or canoes, around the Lake with cars or bicycles, as well as hiking at the Mountains Belles (Kerkini) and Krousia. Mountain Belles: It is located in the northwest side of the Region of Serres and next to the Lake Kerkini with an altitude of more than 2,000 m. Mountain Belles is the natural boundary between Greece and Bulgaria and impresses by its huge size and its rich vegetation. Forests with many species of oak, beech, black and forestal pine cover the mountain in the lower layers while the number of eagles nests increases and the vegetation decreases in the highest layers. The path for the peak of the mountain is accessible either via hiking - climbing or driving 4X4 jeep.

Cave Alistrati: Cave Alistrati is one of the most beautiful caves in Greece due to the great variety of fine stalactites and stalagmites. It is open every day from 09:00 a.m. to 07:00 p.m. (in summer) and from 09:00 a.m. to 05:00p.m. (in winter). Tel: +30 23240 82405





Forest Lailias: It is the forestal lung of the Region of Serres with enormous ecological, social and cultural importance. Forest Lailias is suitable both for summer and winter tourism. The ski center is open on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and feast days.


Gorge of River Aggiti: The gorge of Aggiti is situated between the mountains Paggeo and Menikio. Its length reaches the 15 km and it is ideal for rafting with different levels of difficulty, so that everybody can participate.
